The Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS) in Partnership with Zambia the Association of Manufactures (ZAM) are offering subsidised training from the Regional Integration Support Mechanism (RISM) on Quality Management Systems based on ISO 9001:2008.
This follows the realization that the competitiveness of a company’s products or services is heavily anchored in the company’s ability to demonstrate that it has systems in place to assure good quality and safety of its products to its clients and regulatory bodies.
Notably, Zambia being part of regional groupings has adopted almost all the regional standards in COMESA. However, the uptake of these standards by the private sector has remained low for various reasons. The project therefore aims to prepare companies for ISO certification by building capacity in the following areas;
Module1: Understanding of the (QMS) (2 days)
Module 2: Documentation required by QMS (2days)
Module 3: Internal audit (4 days)
Companies that have already expressed their interest in participating in the training will undergo a series of training seminars that will be undertaken in both Lusaka and Copperbelt Regions. Overall, it is envisaged that twenty (20) companies will be beneficiaries of the programme and that after receiving the training; the company representative will coordinate all the activities related to Quality Management System through to certification by the end of 2014.
We look forward to adding more Manufacturing and Services firms to the roster of firms with internationally certified quality management systems, and enhancing the product of their product offerings both domestically and internationally.
