ZAMBIA ASSOCIATION OF MANUFACTURERS TO HOST A BREAKFAST MEETING ON “THE PROPOSED 75% INCREMENT IN ELECTRICITY TARIFFS BY ZESCO”
The Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation Limited (ZESCO) has proposed a 50% increment in electricity tariffs effective 1st May, 2017 and an additional 25% increment effective 1st September, 2017. This will mean that electricity tariffs will be increased by 75% before the end of 2017.
In this regard, the Zambia Association of Manufacturers (ZAM) will be holding a breakfast meeting to discuss the implications of the proposed 75% increment in electricity tariffs by ZESCO on the manufacturing sector and any other issues that require government attention.
The event is scheduled to take place on Thursday 13th April, 2017 at the Southern Sun Hotel. The breakfast meeting will be graced by the Minister of Energy, Hon. David Mabumba, MP, ERB officials as well as ZESCO officials. The charges will be K300 per person.
As our objectives state, we aim to create a conducive business environment through lobbying, we therefore note that the proposed 50% initial increment is too high and the time frame for adjustment in electricity tariffs is too short for the companies to adjust and still remain competitive.
Therefore, the breakfast meeting will provide a platform for manufacturers to engage with government and other relevant stakeholders to discuss how the proposed tariffs will impact your business and also to discuss a feasible way forward that creates a win-win situation. This is an opportunity for manufacturers to lobby government to reconsider its decision.
The ZAM Secretariat is still open to receive confirmations until 10th April, 2017. Please confirm your attendance today.
